Bangor Cathedral
Attraction
The Cathedral Church of Saint Deiniol, Bangor, stands on a site that has been used for Christian worship since the 6th Century.
Caernarfon Castle
Attraction
A brute of a fortress. Caernarfon Castle’s pumped-up appearance is unashamedly muscle-bound and intimidating. Picking a fight with this massive structure would have been a daunting prospect.
Cymer Abbey
Attraction
Substantial remains of the simple abbey church, founded in 1198 by Maredudd ap Cynan for the Cistercian order.
Fairbourne Railway
Attraction
It’s the smallest of Wales’s narrow-gauge railways, with a track width of only 12¼ins. So it’s dinky, it’s sweet – but it takes you on a railway ride through the dunes to some pretty big views of the Mawddach Estuary and mountains beyond.
National Slate Museum
Attraction
The National Slate Museum is sited in the Victorian workshops built in the shadow of Elidir mountain, site of the vast Dinorwig quarry.
