Coed-y-Brenin The village, close to remote highlands and the mountain biking trails in the Coed-y-Brenin Forest, is a good walking and cycling base.

Fishing

Trawsfynydd’s large lake, created in the 1920s to serve the Maentwrog hydro-electric station, is another attraction. Nowadays the lake is used for fishing (brown trout, rainbow trout and perch). Waterbus boat trips are also available.

Ellis H. Evans

It’s famous as the home of the shepherd and gifted poet Ellis H Evans, more commonly known as Hedd Wyn. He won the Eisteddfod Chair posthumously in 1917, having died six weeks earlier during World War One. The Chair was therefore draped in black. A statue of Evans stands in the village, and his descendants still live in the family home of Ysgwrn – they often entertain visitors who wish to see his home and Eisteddfod Chairs.
