Scenic, family friendly, traffic free routes are located throughout the area. The popular Lôn Eifion, a beautiful green avenue of native trees stretching between the historic town of Caernarfon and the village of Bryncir, provides incredible views of the surrounding mountains, Anglesey and the Llŷn Peninsula. Lôn Las Ogwen has been constructed on a disused railway track along the banks of the River Cegin from the university city of Bangor inland to Tregarth. Lôn Las Peris meanders lazily along the sheltered shore of Llŷn Padarn in Llanberis at the foot of Snowdon. Lôn Las Menai, running between historic Caernarfon and the village of Y Felinheli, provides a glimpse of the legendary Isle of Anglesey. The 9 mile long Mawddach Trail between Barmouth and Dolgellau provides aweinspiring views of the Mawddach Valley and estuary whilst the three mile Trawsfynydd path follows the eastern shore of the lake through woodlands and open country.
The most recent addition, the spectacular Lôn Ardudwy, follows minor roads and runs between mountains and coast from Porthmadog to Barmouth. To experience the magic and mystery of possibly the most dramatic of the mountain strongholds of the native Welsh princes and unforgettable scenery Lôn Dysynni is a must and runs from Tywyn to Abergynolwyn. Two new Cycle Hubs have been developed on the Llŷn Peninsula and Dolgellau areas.
Route Guides for these are available from all TIC’s. Add to this the trails through forests and woodlands such as at Dolgellau and Betws-y-Coed and a network of rural lanes and you will see that Snowdonia Mountains and Coast really is a leisure cyclist’s paradise. Snowdonia has so much to offer cyclists who wish to be challenged
and thrilled.
